Skin boil formation fall in to a few different categories though they all have essentially the same makeup. All boils begin as a red patch eventually growing in size. All boils get filled with pus; the indication youre your body is fighting back. The categories are as follows:
Furuncles
Furuncles are boils brought on by infection in the hair follicle. Their development is not particular to any part of the body. However, they commonly occur on the face, neck, thigh, buttocks and underarm. The appearance of boils on the nose and ear are less common. Furuncles can also spread and cause a deeper infection called carbuncles.
Carbuncles
Carbuncles are furuncles that usually form in clusters. They typically gather on the back of the neck, shoulders, hips and thighs. Carbuncles usually last longer than other types of boils because the infection is deeper.
Hidradenitis Supparativa
]]>
Boils that fall into this category usually develop inside the underarm and around the groin. Hidradenitis supparativa presents itself when sweat glands become inflamed and infected. In extreme cases, this type of boil requires surgical removal.
Cystic Acne
Cystic Acne occurs when there is a clog or plug in your hair follicle. Excess oil in the skin can trap dirt and bacteria causing a cyst. Cystic acne is not the same thing as regular acne or pimples. Cystic acne affects skin tissue at a much deeper level. The most common area for this type of boil is the face especially during teen-age years.
Pilonidal Cysts
This type of cyst is also referred to as a rectal boil (forming in the cleft of the buttocks). They start as infections of the hair follicle making it very painful to sit down or walk. They tend to drain without warning and they are often recurring.

Dr. Diane M. Hoss, MD discusses Dissecting Cellulitis of the Scalp. See more at www.dermnet.com PLEASE RATE AND COMMENT!!! Dissecting cellulitis is an uncommon condition that mainly affects African American adult males. It is one of the occlusion triad, along with hidradenitis suppurativa and acne conglobata. Most patients with dissecting cellulitis do not have the other two conditions in the triad. The disease presents as boggy inflammatory nodules that coalesce with subsequent sinus tract formation usually on the crown and vertex scalp. Old inactive disease is characterized by areas of scarring alopecia with fibrotic ridges, sinus tracts and comedo formation. Patients complain of drainage of active nodules and the eventual scarring hair loss that occurs. Scalp biopsy in dissecting cellulitis demonstrates deep inflammation (primarily in the subcutis) consisting of lymphocytes, neutrophils and plasma cells. The initial hair loss is a telogen effluvium caused by the massive inflammation. With time the inflammation involves the dermis, including the follicles which are eventually destroyed. Old lesions reveal dermal fibrosis, scarring alopecia and epithelial-lined sinus tracts.

Turmeric (scientific name Curcuma longa) is a plant belonging to the ginger family and is cultivated for its rhizomes (modified stems that are commonly found underground). It is a plant native to tropical South Asia and turmeric powder is commonly used as a spice in South Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine. The processing of turmeric involves boiling the rhizomes for many hours and then drying them in hot ovens before being ground to a fine powder which is orangish yellow in colour. The active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin.
Apart from its culinary uses, turmeric is supposed to have medicinal properties and finds a mention in Ayurveda (traditional Indian medicine). Turmeric is commonly used as a paste for burns, cuts, and bruises. Turmeric powder mixed with milk is also thought to have restorative properties. In some Asian countries, turmeric is taken as a dietary supplement that helps in digestion and treating stomach problems and has anti-inflammatory properties. Currently, research is on to detect the possible benefits of turmeric in cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, liver disorders, arthritis, and Hidradenitis Suppurativa (or Acne Inversa, which is an uncurable and debilitating malady). Research is also ongoing to prove the anti venin properties of turmeric in treating snake bites, specially the bites of King Cobras.
Turmeric also has properties that promotes its use in cosmetics. In countries like India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, turmeric paste is applied to the bride and groom before the wedding, supposedly because turmeric improves the complexion and gives the skin a glow, as well as protects the skin from bacterial infections. Turmeric is sometimes used in the formulation of some sunscreens. Turmeric is also believed to have antioxidant properties.
