Hidradenitis Suppurativa Treatment

Before you can treat hidradenitis suppurativa, you must first be diagnosed with it.  Lack of research has made it hard for medical practictioners to diagnose hidradenitis suppurativa.  As you will see in the following testimonial video, misdiagnosis has obstructed many HS sufferers from receiving the proper treatment.

There are various forms of treatment for hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). You doctor will likely recommend one or more available treatment options.  It is important to be aware that not all treatments will be effective for your particular case.

Because the symptoms are similar to acne; doctors often treat hidradenitis suppurativa sufferers as they would acne patients; however, this has proven to be inneffective.

More effective forms of treatment for hidradenitis suppurativa include:

  • Antibiotics to fight infections caused by the bacteria induced by follicle blockages in the apocrine glands.
  • High-dose systemic steroids for their inflammatory effect.
  • Birth control pills, as a measure to balance hormones.
  • Surgery is often used to make incisions for pus drainage, to remove recurring legions, and to correct the scars left as a result of a previously infected area that has not healed properly.
  • Radiotherapy, more commonly known as radiation, is also successfuly being used to treat some hidradenitis suppurativa patients.
  • Retinoids have also been used but with limited results.
Again, although there are several possible hidradenitis suppurativa treatments, your doctor may limit your options based on your particular case.
